About the Nature Republic

Nature Republic is a South Korean Beauty brand that was launched in 2009.

In 2011, Nature Republic expanded to several countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Cambodia, and Singapore. The company started a store in the Philippines in 2012.

After conquering the Asian market, the brand moved to the United States in 2012, where they’ve opened nearly 20 stores.

Nature Republic has an extensive variety of makeup, skincare, and body care products.

Skincare products of Nature Republic include cleansers, exfoliators, toners, moisturizers, serums, lotions, sheet masks, eye creams, etc.

Nature Republic has various makeup, body care, and sun care products.

Nature Republic is famous among K-pop fans, as the brand has worked with K-pop artists and groups such as EXO, NCT, Rain, etc.

As the name of the brand tells, the products of Nature Republic have natural ingredients in them.

The brand believes in four things. That is;

  • Nature – Brand has mentioned on the website that they believe in nature and collect the ingredients of their products from nature.
  • Everyone – The brand states that their products are reasonably priced so they are affordable and can be used by everyone.
  • Originality – Nature Republic believes that they use natural ingredients in their products, however, they don’t imitate/copy other giants of the beauty industry.
  • Communication – The brand claims to continuously communicate with their customers and try to improve their products accordingly.

Now that we have gone through the brief introduction of the company and got to know about what they believe, let’s try to get deeper into the ethical and moral values of the brand.

Is Nature Republic cruelty-free?

A cruelty-free brand does not test its products on animals. The common animals that are used in this brutal procedure are rabbits, rats, frogs, cats, monkeys, etc.

According to PETA, more than 100 million animals are killed in US laboratories for scientific purposes each year (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

In Canadian laboratories, 5.07 animals are used for research, while 2.88 animals are used in UK laboratories.

Animals (rats, frogs, monkeys, rabbits, birds, and many others) are killed or brutally harmed in these laboratories.

It’s concerning that the products we use daily were tested on animals.

It was seen that every 44 out of 50 giant cosmetic companies are testing on animals, which means that 88 percent of the major companies still use the procedure of animal testing even though many alternative options are available.

To find whether a brand is cruelty-free or not, we need to pass it through the following criteria;

  • A cruelty-free brand should not test its products on animals.
  • It should neither ask nor allow other companies or retailers to test its products on animals.
  • It should not sell in countries where animal testing is required by law.
  • It should have a certification from any respectable organization such as PETA or Leaping Bunny.

If we talk about the Nature Republic, then there isn’t much information about its policies. They also did not mention anything about this on their website.

Products of Nature Republic are sold in China, where animal testing is required by law. Nature Republic is also not certified by any respectable animal-rights organization.

These facts suggest that the Nature Republic is not a cruelty-free cosmetics brand and they test on animals where it is required by law.

Is Nature Republic vegan-friendly?

A vegan-friendly brand does not contain any sort of animal derivatives in its products.

Common animal ingredients used in cosmetics are gelatin, beeswax, collagen, keratin, glycerin, etc.

If we talk about the Nature Republic, then again they haven’t mentioned anything related to this on their website.

However one can easily find the answer by looking at the ingredients of their products. We found that;

Nature Republic is not a 100% vegan-friendly brand.

Is the Nature Republic ethical?

Ethical brands do not only care about the profit they would generate, they also care about ethics and morals.

Nature Republic is not an ethical brand as they don’t have animal-friendly policies.

Conclusion:

Nature Republic is a South Korean beauty brand that has products ranging from skincare to haircare to makeup and whatnot.

They also have several stores in different parts of the world.

However, Nature Republic is not a cruelty-free or vegan-friendly brand.
