Guess is an American retail clothing brand. It was originally owned and founded by four brothers Georges Marciano, Maurice Marciano, Paul Marciano, and Armand Marciano.

Guess is more like a luxury brand rather than a fast-fashion brand. Although it is still not considered as luxurious as other high-end brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Balenciaga, and Dior.

Guess was founded in 1981 and has been serving the world for decades. Guess is quite a popular brand and customers’ favorite both internationally and domestically.

Guess is still considered affordable and budget-friendly as compared to other luxurious brands but its products are not as cheap and affordable as other fast fashion brands.

Many celebrities and well-known figures have been seen wearing Guess products. It is another reason for Guess’s popularity. When a celebrity wears a brand’s clothes or accessories, the brand gains popularity in a short time even when it is not sponsored.

Guess offers a wide range of products including men’s clothing, women’s clothing, kid’s clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry, watches, hats, and scarves. The Marciano brothers redefined denim.

Where Does Guess Manufacture its Products?

Guess is a reputable fashion brand and its products are of good quality. Guess manufactures its products and clothes in various countries.

In past, Guess mainly manufactured its clothes in the United States but now most of the products available at Guess are manufactured in China.

Other than China Guess manufactures its products in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Turkey, India, and Bangladesh. Almost all of the accessories available at Guess are made in China.

Although Guess is manufacturing its products in countries like China and Bangladesh, its products are made by skilled workers and they are of nice quality.

Guess might not be making its products in places like Italy and France like some other high-end brands but their quality is good for the price they are charging for their products.

If you are buying a dress for more than 200 dollars, its quality is bound to be better than a 20-dollar dress but it won’t be as good as a dress that costs thousands of dollars.

So, the quality of Guess’s products is not great but it is still not as bad as the quality of products that we get from other fast fashion brands with extremely low-priced and cheap products.

Is Guess an Ethical and Sustainable Brand?

Guess is quite a reputable brand in the fashion industry and it is making efforts to be sustainable and ethical. Guess has listed its projects, policies, and future plans on its website to show the sustainable practices of the brand.

Guess believes that our world is our future and it is our responsibility to be more eco-friendly and save the world. This world holds our future and causing harm to the planet is by no means acceptable.

For its in-store recycling project, Guess joined hands with Social Enterprise Homeboy Industries. Guess sent the unwanted items to Homeboy recycling and the items are upcycled, refurbished, and recycled there.

Guess offered its customers to bring more than five unwanted items from their wardrobes and get a 15% discount. With this offer, the customers of Guess will be benefitted too.

This partnership also resulted in creating opportunities and jobs for previously incarcerated people to help them restart their life while the brand is working on reducing textile waste.

In the past few years, Guess has accomplished many things. It has also set many goals for the future too. More than 20% denim of Guess is part of its eco collection.

The fashion industry is damaging the planet most by greenhouse gas emissions and supply chain emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions are extremely destructive to our planet and ruin our ecosystem.

To deal with this situation, Guess is reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and supply chain emissions by 30% by the year 2030. Most brands chose to neglect this completely so Guess is being praise-worthy for at least trying this much.

The other most concerning thing is plastic waste. Plastic waste should be reduced as we know how harmful it is to the earth. Guess claims that it is transitioning to use only recyclable packaging that is made of 100% recycled materials.

Guess also sponsored eight courses at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM). These courses cover the topics of pattern making, zero waste, lifecycle assessment, circular fashion, innovative materials, and responsible denim production.

Guess says that while it is trying to be more sustainable, it is still not possible for a brand to do it alone. To fulfill its promise of being more sustainable and ethical guess is partnering with other organizations too.

These organizations include Global Fashion Agenda, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, The World Stage, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Textile Exchange, and a few more.
