Overview

OEKO-TEX® is a globally recognized independent certification system that tests textile and leather products for harmful substances, ensuring product safety for human health. OEKO-TEX® offers several different certifications, including STANDARD 100, LEATHER STANDARD, MADE IN GREEN, STeP, and ECO PASSPORT, each with its own unique focus and requirements.

The most well-known certification is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, which tests every component of a product, including buttons, linings, threads, trims, and zips, against a list of over 100 regulated and non-regulated harmful substances. Products are divided into four classes based on their intended use, with the most strict requirements for baby products and the least strict for decoration materials.

LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX® is the equivalent certification for leather and leather products, covering all levels of production, from leather materials to leather clothing and accessories. Like STANDARD 100, all components of a product are tested for harmful substances.

MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® is a traceable product label that goes beyond product safety to include social and environmental responsibility and transparent supply chains. To obtain the MADE IN GREEN label, a product must first be certified by STANDARD 100 or LEATHER STANDARD and the production facility must be certified by STeP by OEKO-TEX®.

STeP by OEKO-TEX® is a modular certification system that covers the entire textile and leather production chain, including fiber manufacturing, dyeing, and finishing of products. STeP certification takes into account six modules, including chemical management, environmental performance, and social responsibility.

ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® is an independent certification for chemicals used in the textile and leather industries. Each individual ingredient of a chemical product is analyzed and tested for harmful substances, with the banned substances list and permitted amounts updated annually based on the latest evidence and legal requirements.

Overall, OEKO-TEX® certifications provide customers with confidence in the quality and safety of their textile and leather products, while also promoting environmentally friendly and socially responsible production practices throughout the industry.
